Hi,

I’ve been separated for over 2 years and have dated a couple women in that time but have not had the desire to enter into any type of a relationship.

I have just filed the paperwork to make my divorce final and after 60 days it will be finalized. I took a woman on a date a few weeks ago and have seen her a few times since, I really like her quite a bit. We have not had any discussions regarding past relationships.

I want to be truthful with her but want to know the best way to bring up my pending divorce to give us the best chance of continuing to see one another. I’m a very solid guy with good values and a good life, I have much to share and truly feel ready to enter a relationship with the woman I met.

Please provide me with your advice on how to tell her about this.

Ask her out on a date, and during dinner, or drinks or whatever your date entails, while you’re talking, mention that you’re going to be a legally single man in less than 60 days! You can say just that or spin it any way you’d like. The important thing is to get it out there. I’m positive she’ll ask you questions after that, and the conversation will ensue.

It’s important to find out if the person you’re dating is actually available so neither one of you misleads the other one. There actually are married people who date under the pretense of being single and that leads to big drama and upset when the truth unfolds. So, be straight forward, and just tell your date your legal social status, and ask her how her divorce panned out (if she’s divorced) or if she’s ever dated anyone who was divorcing. It’s a way of getting to know someone, and after a few dates you’re entirely in the right in terms of manners to inquire.
