Help a socially awkward guy talk to a girl on Facebook.

I met this girl through a friend on the weekend. Went out to the bar with her, and then to a house party the night after. Our conversation was superficial, but fluid for the most part. She added me on Facebook, and I want to keep a dialogue going with her, not just add her and never talk.

I don’t want to be one of those guys who hits on girls on Facebook, I just want to keep the window open to meet up if we’re in each others area (she lives in a different town).

We talked about a lot of things, the only thing I can think of that would still be relevant is school. So I was thinking of asking her how school is going now.

I know I’m making a big deal out of nothing, but I’m not too experienced with online interaction. I prefer to do my talking face to face, so I’m just looking for a little direction.

I think it’s great that you prefer doing your talking face to face — and you should follow that instinct. The internet is a great tool, but it’s not a substitute for relationships or relationship skills like conversation. Talking about school, or the night you met and the events of the evening, are both good topics for conversation. My advice is to let Facebook go and call her on the phone and ask her out for a light date where you can get to know her further. If you truly are socially awkward (you don’t sound socially awkward to me), then face to face is better than Facebook for communicating.
