I have been in a relationship for 8 years. He is the only man I have ever been with. I am 24 and he is 27. We have lived together for 6 years, and essentially have a husband/wife relationship. He recently finished college after 7 years, and we both moved 1000 miles away from our home to embark on an adventure together, to start a new life together. We both really adore each other. I cannot even put into words how much he means to me. I simply cannot imagine my life without him. He makes me feel like he feels the same way. He treats me like a queen, and puts up with my crazy. We have talked about marriage a lot in the past, we even both wear rings on our wedding fingers and have for 4 years (so i know he isn’t afraid to let everyone know he is committed to me). He has said before that he is going to ask me to marry him, and that he knows that I am the one. In October of last year I watched my gay best friend plan his wedding after knowing his partner for only 2 years. I had an overwhelming feeling of dissapointment. Why does everyone else get to do this? I want to get married! Why is my boyfriend depriving me of this if he really loves me? So we talked about it and had a big fight about it. Then we talked about it 10 more times this past year, and fought about it 10 more times. Still no ring. Still no wedding. He assures me that it is going to happen, but it still hasn’t. He also says that its his issues that prevent our relationship from being what he wants it to be. He says he feels like a failure, doesn’t make enough money, lets me pick up the slack, he says he needs to take control of his life and it’s his problems that keep our relationship from going furthur. He always takes the blame onto himself. It kinda feels like the classic its not your its me scenario. We both want the same things in life (besides the married thing) we both dont really want kids, we both want to travel, we both like adventure. His family loves me, my family loves him etc. I don’t really know whats wrong or where this is going. Help!!!!!!

it says “DO NOT post your questions” here, when you go to sign up. 😳

Please repost your question in the Q & A Relationship Advice Forum if you want to get a response from April.

you won’t get a response to your question here — this is the welcome area. 😀
