Four months ago i found out my husband was having an affair with his ex-partner and my world fell apart. Since then he has changed from a loving caring partner to someone i barely recognise. He shouts at me, threatens me and puts me down constantly, often infront of our children. He has physically hurt me on one occasion ifront of our son and i am now scared of him. a wrong word or look from me creates a huge verbal attack on how useless and disgusting i am. The problem is we only moved to this country two years ago and he keeps me so isolated that i have no family and friend to turn to. He often spends the remaining money in our bank account on alohol and cigarettes and leaves me with no cash to buy food. i ensure our two smalll children dont go without but i often only eat once a day. I have a good part time job and never ever thought i would find myself in this position but am so completly lost i just dont know what to do
please help as i am afraid if i leave he wont let me take the children

You need a support system here and you need legal intervention. If your husband is violent to you or threatens your physical safety, call the police. That’s first and foremost.

Next, you need to find support for yourself and your children. Some places to go and ask for help are:

    1. A local church or religious organization

    2. A hospital

    3. A women’s shelter

You have to become strong enough to take care of your children, which means leaving your husband. Talk to the people at the church, the hospital, and the women’s shelter about your situation and they’ll refer you to local help. You can also call the police and ask their help. Tell them what you told me.
