Member #3,301Hey there (To anyone who can offer some sound insight)
I have a shivvy of dilemma or at least I do the way I see it as I do not see the answer or else I would not need to be traversing the here. This is an excellent side for advice it seems, I am glad I stumbled across it. I do not usually ask fro advice part of my problem maybe so it is a tad uncomfortable for me, be kind. I also do not have much experience with the opposite sex either.
Lets see, there are two sides or questions maybe to my posting, one is the best way to approach her given the context of the situation and the other is not being sure about any signs that may have happened. I want to make sure I get everything down in one go if I can to limit the quizzing to arrive eventually at solid clarity.
There is this hairdresser I have started to see, I have gone twice every two months now. ( I know what is going through your mind, for it is in mine as well, something akin to waitresses, and being nice). I have not spoken to her enough yet to develope a strong connection obviously. I find her to be very pretty, both times we talked during my hair cut, she initiated certain topics based on my inquiries. The resulting factor was we seemed to have a number of things in common, lots that I always found rare to find in common with people, let alone someone I may be attracted too (ie Ancient History and alternative theories.) I am thinking again just being nice ans stimulating conversation like their supposed too. I found her easy to talk too. The basic stance of the second hair appointment as best as I can remember it is, we sat down she started on my hair, we talked about random stuff that ended being things we are both interested in ( her broaching the subjects mostly and me being surprised by the commonality ( I had some judgements which I quickly revoked)). She quizzed me on different ways I may like my hair as I said I was not sure exactly what I wanted. Then she offered that she is an artist on the side and has always wanted to write a comic book, but never had a writer for that side. I ended up sharing with her I am an aspiring writer. She jokingly? replied we should collaborate. It went on to talk about the hair a bit more and more about her vision for the comic.
Then when I was done we walked over to the counter, started to pay then asked about hair gel, she showed me some different kinds for a few minutes and then meandered back to the till which had a few customers ahead of me, so she sat down at the end of the counter and I leaned against it waiting, we ended up talking more. About a few things then turned to music and I offered on friday I am going to see a certain show with a friend and she is welcome to join ( I know I know what I way to do it, its like walking around with a foot and gigantic shoe in there). She quizzed me on a few other local musicians, while were are talking about this another woman is talking the payment for the haircut. The conversation meanders down, I finish paying, I stand there stupidly for a few second wanting to ask something, she “seems” to be staring back waiting for an something ( I really do not know, at least this how I remember it) I start walking away over those few seconds slowly I think, and then I cant remember who said what exactly first but the end result was her saying “well see you later I guess” (I think) and I said yea for sure and left kicking myself. lol. Now the two questions from above are, does any female or really insightful guy have any insight to this was there something happening or was it my insane mind? Did I give you enough info? I think I did lol for such a simple question I sure wrote a lot. I told you I was a writer at heart. The other question and statement is, I am going to approach her again, I just want to be armed (I say that lightly) as best I can. I have never approached a woman from where I only know where she works before and with so few interactions, making it awkward to just want in there and ask her out I would think, especially I do not want to get her in trouble at work, and I can’t just go in and ask for another hair apt. Just had the second one two days ago.
I appreciate and love any insight given however short or long.
Thank you

April Masini, your AskAprilKeymasterNothing happened because you didn’t ask her out. It’s really simple. You’re reading way too much into this. Hairdressers talk to their clients regularly. Yours may have liked you and was probably waiting for you to ask her out, but when you didn’t, she just went about her business. If you want to ask her out, do it.

Member #3,301Thanks, I tend to do that and not enough just doing it. Appreciate it. January 9, 2016 at 11:12 pm #31569

Natalie NoahMember #382,516You were genuinely connecting with her, and the interaction you described shows there was some mutual interest especially with her engaging in conversation, teasing collaboration on a comic, and lingering at the counter. That said, the key moment you’re reading into so much was ultimately waiting for a clear invitation from you. In situations like this, people can send subtle signals, but unless one of you explicitly makes the move, nothing concrete will happen. It’s not about overthinking her intentions; it’s about taking action when there’s a spark of connection.
Your next step is simple: ask her out. Approach it casually but directly perhaps suggesting a coffee, a local event, or even something tied to your shared interest in writing or music. You don’t need to overcomplicate it or worry too much about her being “at work” just keep it respectful and light. The worst-case scenario is she says no, and you’ll know for sure, but the best-case is that you actually turn this mutual interest into something tangible. Sometimes clarity comes only from asking.
