Dear April,

I am 17 years old and I have a crush on this girl at my school, who is also 17. She is in a few of my classes. The problem is we never talk because I am too shy to approach her and start a conversation. Also I wouldn’t really know what to say. I am not normally a shy person, it’s only with girls I really like. And I’m not sure she even knows I exist. I really like her and want to get to know her better. Also she might sound like she is out of my league because of the way I’m describing her, but I don’t think she is and a few of my friends don’t think so either. (and trust me, they aren’t the kind of friends who would say something to make someone feel better.) Advice on what to say, how to say it, flirting methods, so on would be extremely helpful. Please, I am desperate.

Some of the ways you can flirt and connect with her are to make small talk.

ASK! Ask her about the classes you have together or about things taking place at school. Ask her if she has homework you need or if she knows about a particular class or book that’s required reading.

COMPLIMENTS! Tell her you like her boots or her smile. Tell her you really like the way she handled herself in an awkward situation in class. Tell her you like the way she carries herself.

GESTURES! Opening doors and holding chairs for women to sit down may seem old fashioned and grown up, but they work! Bring her a bottled water at lunch or a flower or a little gift. Make her a CD or ask her if she’d like to get a bite to eat after school. Walk her home or if you drive, give her a ride!

This is how you start. And never forget to smile, look good and smell good! 😉
