    Hi April!

I just started dating a new guy and he is great. The only thing is that he won’t change his relationship status on facebook to say he’s in a relationship with me. It doesn’t say single. He just has it set so that it doesn’t say anything. He told me he has never added it with any girl he has dated because he doesn’t feel comfortable with random people on the internet knowing everything about him.

I normally would find this shady and secretive, but he has introduced me to ALL of his friends, told them I am his girlfriend, and is extremely affectionate in public in front of everyone. Every time we go out with his friends, he constantly puts his arm around me, kisses me, holds my hand, etc. He also has many public pictures tagged on facebook of him kissing me and putting his arms around me. If he really meant to hide our relationship, wouldn’t he untag those or make them private?

Am I overthinking this? Do you think being facebook official is really that important in a relationship?

This is not a fight you want to pick or a subject you want to harp on or even bring up. You’re dating, and you’re only just starting to date — you’re not married. It’s completely fine for him not to have his social media status reflect a relationship when there’s just a few months of dating going on. His not indicating a relationship on social media doesn’t mean he doesn’t like you — it just means he’s not ready to post it on Facebook. Don’t force him. Don’t bring it up. Just keep dating and enjoying that! 🙂
