I have been dating a guy for only about a month but he has called me his girlfriend numerous times, and I thought we were quite close for only dating for a short amount of time. This Valentines, I went out of my way to get him a really thoughtful gift and take the time to buy it and give to him. He did not get me anything. Not a card. No flowers, etc. I’m not one to expect any gifts but I thought he would at least do something special. At first, it was only minorly disappointing, until another guy, who I have had no history with at all and never dated, got me 1/2 dozen roses, bought me a card and made a funny poem inside about me and this is a guy who I am not dating and never was. Am i over thinking this? Or is that a red flag? For my birthday, he also didn’t get me anything which wasn’t that long ago. The guy I am dating, money definitely isn’t an issue so I’m not sure why this is… Even a homemade card would show he cared but now I’m not so sure. Please help.

One of two things happened — either he’s not that interested in you, so he didn’t get you a birthday gift or a Valentine’s gift (or card), or he’s stingy. Since you’ve only been dating a month, tread cautiously. He’s not as into you, at this moment, as you are to him — or else he is, and he’s never going to be very generous.

I hope this helps. Let me know how things go, and please follow me @AskAprilcom on Twitter and on Facebook at this link: .

Does buying birthday dinner and movie and valentine’s movie count?

Since he’s only dated you for a little over a month, taking you out to dinner for your birthday, and to the movies on Valentine’s Day, means he wanted to spend that time with you 🙂but he could have gone the extra step and gotten you a card or some flowers for either of those events. 😳 My advice is to hang in there and get to know him a little more, but keep your eyes open and don’t get so invested so quickly. You’re obviously still getting to know him. 😉
