So I’m going to try and make this short. Me and my boyfriend had been dating for a little under 3 years. And on New Years day he broke up with me claiming that he had fallen out of love with me and couldn’t see a future together. The thing that I don’t understand is that he said that he had been unhappy for a while (months), and that he had been planning on breaking up with me, yet just the days before he had included me in his summer plans. I don’t understand what’s going on. Can you really fall out of love with someone? I’m incredibly hurt as I was completely blind sided, but I’ wondering if any of you have been broken up with by a guy claiming that he has fallen out of love and then he has asked for you back?

It is very common for break ups to occur around the holidays. 😳 People put off break ups until the end of the year because they don’t want to “ruin” the holidays. Or sometimes they are just lazy about it and finally the new year comes and they realize that they want a fresh start, so they ring in the new year with a break up. Sometimes pressures from family or the holiday stress on a couple creates the straw that broke the camel’s back during the holidays. So, yes, this is common.

And as you know (or else you wouldn’t be asking) sometimes people do mistakes and ask for forgiveness and another chance. Whether or not he will come back to you has a lot to do with why the two of you broke up. I don’t know how old he is, but he may feel that he’s not ready for a commitment with anyone and just wants to feel free and play the field. Or there may be someone else he’s interested in. So it really depends on what’s going on with him, and the two of you.

I hope that helps. Let me know how things go, and please follow me @AskAprilcom on Twitter and on Facebook at this link: .
