Hi again April,
I just wanted to share something that has really worked for me in my relationship. Being a psychology major, I was required to take a course in women’s psychology. There, I learned a lot about gender roles and a woman’s views on different relationship aspects such as romance. One day I asked myself: how could I attempt to diminish the gender based differences in communication?
Eventually I found the answer and I believe that it’s the key to my current and successful relationship. Every person has both masculine and feminine traits. I bridged the gap of understanding by attempting to take both perspectives into account and managed to understand her needs, and as a result, she began to understand mine. The best part was that the balance allowed me to not feel any less masculine and shortly after the relationship started, she attempted to bridge the gender communication gap, too. We know we tend to express our love in different ways, but we have learned to express them in ways that both of us feel comfortable about. Have you ever encountered a successful relationship built on understanding of communication and perceptions of both genders?
In Solidarity,
Jay M. Rosenthal
