I accepted some of Josh’s habits because he told me that he only drinks alcohol occasionally. He also vapes with his friends from time to time, but I chose not to make a big issue out of it because he said it had been part of his lifestyle for a long time.
One day, I noticed a cigarette butt on the lamp table beside his bed. When I asked him about it, he told me that it belonged to one of his friends. However, some of his friends later told me that Josh actually smokes cigarettes. At first, I assumed they were only joking or teasing him.
His friends also sometimes joke that he earns money by entertaining men. I never took those comments seriously because they always said them in a playful way. I trust my suitor more than I trust the rumors or jokes coming from his friends.
Still, I sometimes find myself wondering where his money comes from. There are moments when I feel like his friends are trying to tell me something about the real Josh, while he continues to deny everything and I continue to believe him.
Now I’m starting to question whether I’m being trusting or simply ignoring the warning signs.
