Hello April,
We are both in our 30’s!
We had been dating for 2 months before he asked for a break (knowing each other for 3 months before dating!)
He is an “aware” alcoholic, tries to stop but cannot! He has tried to go to AA meetings in the past (before i was in the picture!) and he says it did not do anything for me. He is not happy with his life and did not want to string me along as he thinks i would get tired of him and his behavior. He thought i deserve better than him. From what he is telling me, he has been a drinker for awhile ( I would say 10 yrs!)
I hope this will help in giving me advice!

First, thank you for taking the time to help me in this matter!
Since, my post..my boyfriend(or should i say EX) sent me a text saying that he apologized for not being around and the reason why is because he did not like who he is right now and did not like where he is in his life at the present time! He also stated that he needed some time to get his “s…” together , and when he does he will return! He also said he was missing me! While, I can appreciate the fact that he needs his time to get his life in order..I am not going to sit around and wait for him( at least try not to!) ..I am going to continue my life and see what happens…I did offer to help him with his alcohol abuse, offer to go with him to meetings, offer for him to stay at my place when he felt the need to drink with his roomate/friends …he never said no to offers but then again never came forward with them either. Even if i do care a lot about him, there is not much more I can do!!….I only hope im making the right choice by giving him the space he needs!…The future will tell….
