I have been with my boyfriend for almost 5 yrs. He tells me we have a future but am unsure. He has a child and does not bring me around the child. He says he enjoys his time with his child and also enjoys our time together. I know that the child’s mother does not want the child around me or anyone else for that matter. If he has intentions of building a future with me, then shouldn’t I be around the child to get to know her?

He doesn’t have intentions of marrying you or of bringing you into his life in any serious way. You’re right, that WAY before you hit the five year mark, you’d have known that he was serious by his behavior. That behavior would have been him introducing you to family and friends and starting to act settled with you.
