A friend of mine wanted to introduce me to an acquaintance of hers for a year now but never got to actually doing so. I’m a teacher and our senior farewell came up and I thought this is an excellent opportunity to contact this girl myself, as now I actually have excuse to make contact and ask her if she wouldn’t mind being my date for the evening. I’ve never been this upfront in my live.

Anyway we texted a few time and arranged to meet at her house for coffee one morning, so I drove through to meet her and we had a pleasant chat lasting about an hour and a half. We went to the farewell and it was an excellent evening. We were some of the last to leave and I really enjoyed her company. She mostly spoke about her studies but I thoroughly enjoyed it and there was practically now silent moment.

She lives about a 100 miles away and with the price of gas it’s difficult to travel such a distance frequently on a teacher’s salary. On our first meeting she said that she doesn’t like texting or calling, she prefers face-to-face conversations.

My question is now. How do I become better friends with this girl and maybe pursue a relationship with her?

Take a practical approach. Budget your dating life! Decide what you can spend in a year on dating, and then figure out how a long distance relationship with her will work. If you lay it out in dollars and cents (the price of gas, the price of a date, etc.) you’ll have a better idea of how many visits of what type you can afford. If you think the result of this plan yields a do-able start up relationship, then proceed. However, if it doesn’t, there is no reason to pursue a relationship where you’re not compatible because of distance.

You might want to consider purchasing a book I wrote that provides a variety of date at all price points — including budget dates! If you’re dating with a dollar amount in mind, you’ll want to be creative, and the dates in this book will help you. It’s called Ideas For a Fun Date, and you can download it here: https://www.askapril.com/relationship-dating-advice/ideas-for-a-fun-date.html .

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes — and follow me on Twitter @AskAprilcom — and you can join me on Facebook, as well at . 😀

I really don’t mind driving through every few weeks if I know our friendship warrants it. Where I get stuck is, how do I get to know someone better, who doesn’t really like the conventional methods i.e. telephone calls or texting. She doesn’t have an email address either. I’ll be the first to say that I don’t want a friendship based on impersonal contact but how do I, not make a nuisance of myself while yet getting to know her better through these methods mentioned above. I thought of Skype but she told me that all she really uses her computer for is assignments for university.

Start with a single date. If things go well I think she’ll naturally want to hear from you. She may have her walls and boundaries up because she doesn’t know you yet, but if she accepts a date you can take it from there.

That said, relationships are built on communication and before there was e-mail and texting, and even telephones, there were handwritten letters. As you get to know her, find out how she builds other relationships in her life (friendships, family relationships) without using what she calls “conventional” methods. Carrier pigeon? ESP? 😆

Let me know if that helps! And please follow me on Twitter @AskAprilcom. I’d really like it if you would!

I’ve never been on Twitter but I’ll see if I can create an account. It’s been nearly a week since we last made contact. Any ideas of a friendly text I could sent through.

You need to take the reins in this relationship. Check out my book, Date Out of Your League, written for men who want to win with women. You can download it here:https://www.askapril.com/relationship-dating-advice/date-out-of-your-league.html. This book will help you a lot with dating techniques and what TO do and what NOT to do.

As for Twitter, it’s pretty easy: Go to Twitter.com and sign up with your e-mail address for an account, then search for me (@AskAprilcom) and elect to “follow” me! 😀
