Hi April,

I’m sure you’ve probably answered this numerous times before in this forum, but there are so many posts; I didn’t know where to begin looking. Is it ever okay for the woman to say “I love you” first? There are many who argue both sides of this topic, and I’ve always been the one to say it first. Sometimes, the guys have said it right back and other times; there’s been hesitation. I’ve had serious relationships come of all of those situations, regardless of when they said it. I am in a new relationship now, and I don’t have those strong feelings, yet. I just want to know how to handle them when I do. This time around, I do plan on doing my best not to rush things.

Okay, I just saw a response to someone on this exact same subject by Misscappucino, and I’m assuming this other java-inspired name, Mokalatte1 is the same person, and just another of your names you use on this website. Please pick one (and register as a user — it’s free!) so I don’t get confused when I’m answering your questions! 🙂

Your question is a good one! The more extensive answer can be found in my book, Think & Date Like A Man, https://www.askapril.com/relationship-dating-advice/think-and-date-like-a-man.html, which I hope you’ll buy for $8.99 at this link, as an e-book or on the websites for Barnes & Noble and Amazon. The short-hand answer is that men want to chase you. They feel good chasing a woman and winning her over. If you give them something to chase, they’re going to feel GREAT when they win you and they’re going to feel even better about you and the relationship.

When you lead, you take that opportunity away from them. That’s why I think it’s a much better idea to hold back and allow him to be the one who says it first.

I hope that helps! Please follow me @AskAprilcom on Twitter and on Facebook at this link: https://www.askapril.com/relationship-dating-advice/think-and-date-like-a-man.html.

Yes, it is the same person; as they both are nicknames inspired by my real name, which has a java sound to it. Thanks for the suggestions, and I will only use one from now on.
