Ok, so here is the story, I’m a professional in my thirties and the woman I’m into is a temp in my office in her 40s. We’re both single, she temps in my office maybe once a week. Everytime we work together the conversation is always fun, lively, joking and sometimes sexual. When we work together we always carpool home. The other day we had drinks after work and had a great time. The following week when we worked together the office was in a buzz about our meeting for drinks(gossip/whispers). She got really defensive and is now kind of distant. I try talking to her like before, playful and flirty, but she now brushes it off. What’s my next move?

The problem with office romances is that the office feels invested in your romance! 😮 Even though it’s none of their business, it’s impossible not to be affected by the attitudes of people around you. She’s probably less secure in her work as a temp and doesn’t like the attention of the office thinking she’s dating someone. So understand that she likes privacy. Knowing that, my advice is to call her at home and ask her out on a date that doesn’t involve meeting up after work. Pick a weekend day and pick a venue that your work colleagues don’t frequent. Try and get to know each other outside of the office so that she has some separation between work and play and is more comfortable getting to know you without everyone watching and judging.

I hope that helps. Let me know how it goes, and please follow me @AskAprilcom on Twitter and on Facebook at this link: .
