I have been with my boyfriend for about three years not. We currently live together. We have been through a lot of things together. He is 39 years old and drinks every night fairly heavily on most days. He treats me pretty well however we have not had sex in a long time. He has put on weight and is worried about how he looks and about getting older. I almost feel as though he is having a midlife crisis. In the last few weeks he has been acting strange. He has been texting on his phone late at night and doesn’t tell me who he is talking to. I went through his phone (I know I shouldnt have I just felt as though something was going on). While looking I found texts of a sexual nature to an ex of his from many years ago. Apparently they connected again through facebook. He and she were talking about sex and what they wanted to do to each other and then talked about myself and him breaking up so they could be together. Needless to say the next day I spoke with him about breaking up. We both talked about going our seperate ways yet after much crying we both decided to try and make it work. I didn’t tell him I went through his phone I just couldn’t. He tells me he loves me every day however still is texting this other girl especially when he is drinking. They made plans to meet up however he cancels them each time and tells he some excuse as to why he can’t go. He comes home to me everyday after work. I have made it clear that if he wants to move on or is not happy then that is clear. I do feel as though he loves me and I love him and Im not sure what has happened to us lately. Why if he wants to be with her doesn’t he say something? Why keep telling me he loves me if he thinks he wants to be with her? Like I said he drinks heavy every night, does this have something to do with our lack of sex and perhaps talking to her? He talks about the past and she may remind him of that. Is he trying to recapture his youth why not just meet up with her. Its just a wierd situation. I am looking for another place now. We have been very good friends for these years and part of him thinks he needs to protect me. One of the major things we talked about was staying in touch with each other because we really do love each other maybe not in love with each other. I was just hoping for some input as to what he is really thinking
