Hello, I’m a first year student in college. I’ve been checking out a guy for almost a year now, every now and then we meet and glance at each other. I don’t know him, we have no connection at all, we’re not in the same department, but I really want to get to know him. I was content with just seeing him and exchanging playful looks but nowadays he gets embarressed. Like, I look at him and smile and he just looks away walks faster, however I also catch him looking at me from afar. I get the signal that he’s shy and i’m shy so we will never meet if I dont do something. How can i approach him or get him to approach me? Since we’re not in the same department I cant find a common interest. If we talk once I could take it from there but meeting is the hardest part..

You need to start a conversation with him. Small talk is perfect. Or better yet — ask him a question which requires a response, and take it from there. You can ask him about a class, a coffee shop or where he got his sneakers. It almost doesn’t matter what you ask him about as long as you get the conversation started. He may be pleased and relieved that you started up the convo. 😉
