We were together for almost 8 years. We lived in the same house and rented an apartment together, but we were not blessed with a child. We often fought and it sometimes escalated into shouting and physical violence.
There was also a time when I found out that when he left, he was with his ex-girlfriend and they even spent the night together. We fought again after that. Eventually, I couldn’t take his behavior and the physical harm anymore, so I decided to break up with him even though it was very painful because I still loved him. I chose to love myself more.
Now I want to move on. How do I get over a breakup? Do you have steps you can suggest so I can move on from my ex faster?

Keep yourself busy. Go out with friends, stay occupied with work, and find other things to focus your attention on.

But in the end, only time can really tell. No matter what methods you use to move on, it will still depend on how deeply you cared for that person.

Most people cope by finding something to keep themselves busy. For example, they hang out with friends, go to the mall, go shopping, or work out at the gym. You can also focus more on your job or keep yourself productive. Even flirting with other people can sometimes help you move on faster.
