My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 years. We lived together for one year, and for the past two years we’ve been in a long-distance relationship because he works on a ship and only gets vacation once a year for two months. Our setup is okay, we trust each other, but sometimes I can’t help missing him so much that I think about asking him to come home and find another job that wouldn’t require him to be far away from me. On the other hand, I also understand that he chose that kind of work because it allows him to save more for our future.
Right now, I want to learn how to make a long-distance relationship work. What should I do whenever I miss him?

First of all, have a positive mindset and avoid overthinking. It’s important that you trust each other, and patience is key. Don’t focus on what feels lacking from each other’s presence just because you’re far apart.

Make sure you always set aside enough time to talk so your connection doesn’t fade. Always remind yourselves that you’re doing this for your future and for the family you’re building together.

Make sure your connection with each other never disappears. Always find time to talk when you’re both available. And during the times you’re not talking, try to keep yourself busy with things you enjoy so you don’t miss him too much.
