I have been dating this man for about 5 weeks now. It seems to be going really well and we can talk for hours and have lots in common and enjoy one another’s company. We keep in touch throughout the day and then talk on the phone at night. Early on he told me that he wouldn’t date anyone else and that we were exclusive. However, we had awkward drunk sex about 2 weeks into the relationship and then way better sober sex a few days after. He hasn’t been very affectionate since he doesn’t want to kiss me, and he hasn’t wanted to have sex for over two weeks. He has been clear that his life is very complicated and he might change jobs and therefore he might not be living in our city for more then a year. Yet I am new on the dating scene and am not too sure what to think. I have asked him if he even likes me and if there is someone else and he says he is very atracted to me and that there is no one else.

Is he really that scared of intimacy and I should patiently wait as it has only been 5 weeks? Or should I just back away for a little while and let him come to me?

If he’s only going to be in town for a year, he’s holding back because he realizes he may not see you after a year and doesn’t want to get involved with someone he’s going to have to leave. He also said his life is complicated — if I were you, I’d find out exactly what THAT means. It’s kind of ominous.
