Hi;

    Just a question…I recently got back in touch with a guy I dated for about 2-3 months about 3 years ago. We reconnected over coffee and have had 2 dates. Would you consider this a fresh new start? or a continuation from 3 years ago? We didn’t have a physical relationship the first time round, and he’s invited me over for a “video” night for our 3rd date. I’m very keen as I am absolutely bananas over him, but I don’t want another friend-with-benefits. Is it too soon to be asking him what his “intentions” are? Would really love some advice. Thanks

    If you don’t want this to be a friends with benefits situation that don’t YOU behave as if it is one. You have the power to be in the kind of relationship you want to be in, so use that power! 🙂

    Do not have a talk with him about the status of the relationship. That is a mistake. Instead, don’t sleep with him until you feel that this is going to be more than a friends with benefits situation. And if you’re not sure the nature of the relationship, read Date Out of Your League for advice on tips on finding, getting and keeping Mr. Right. Here’s that link: http://www.askapril.com/relationship-dating-advice/think-and-date-like-a-man.html. You’ll read about how to know if he’s really interested or not, and some of those tips include his ACTING like he’s your boyfriend. For instance, he’ll introduce you to his friends as his girlfriend. He’ll want you to meet his family. If he’s serious about you he’s going to stop acting like he’s single and begin acting like he’s got a girlfriend and is in a committed relationship.

    I hope that helps. Defining the relationship as a “fresh start” or a “continuation” isn’t as important as your behaving like the girlfriend you want to be — because that’s where you have the power and control. Over yourself.
