I am dating a guy who likes to play golf every day. He lives about two hours away from me and when I drive to see him for the weekend, he wont give up playing golf. So basically I only get one full day and one evening with him before I have to go back home. We see each other about once every couple weeks. I have tried to break it down to him by saying that I only see him four days a month and that he can give up golfing for one weekend. Keep in mind that he golfs atleast 6 days a week. When I am there, I want to have time with him. When he is golfing, I am pretty much left to find something else to do for several hours. Even when he comes to visit me, he insists on golfing. This really bothers me because I feel as though I am competing with a game.

I have told him that I would like to go with him to practice so we can spend time together but I am not much of a golfer and its really hot out. Yet he insists he has to play a full game. He also tells me that its going to be the same in the winter because he ski’s ….. alot. I asked him how he felt about skipping one weekend of skiing so that we can take a trip somewhere and he says no he wont do that. I feel like I am not important. I am tired of trying to “bargain” with him for his time. Am i being selfish or unreasonable? I really like him but I dont want to keep going round and round about it. Help

If you want to spend more time with him, you should take up golfing and skiing! You’re dating an athlete and someone who loves golfing and skiing. If you want to be with him, then make the commitment to learning to golf and ski. Take lessons on your own and go buy some really cute golf outfits! Same for skiing. It’s great exercise, a wonderful way to socialize and again, you can get some adorable ski outfits and some very hot loungewear for apres ski!

Don’t be stubborn — it won’t help. Instead, take advantage of the opportunity to try sports. 😉 Be grateful that he’s into such healthy hobbies that will keep him fit — and you, too, if you want to join in.
